The Forest of Hands and Teeth

Today I would like to tell you about an incredible book.

Now, in the interest of full disclosure, I have to tell you that THE FOREST OF HANDS AND TEETH by Carrie Ryan is from the same publisher (Delacorte) and the same editor (Krista Marino) as my book, THE MAZE RUNNER. But, you know what? So are a lot of other books. I really loved this one in particular.

As anyone who reads my blog knows, I despise spoilers with all my heart. So I give very brief and very non-informative reviews. Here it is: this book is awesome! Come on, ain't that good enough for you?

Seriously, it's like THE VILLAGE meets LEGEND meets ROMEO AND JULIET. It's creepy and it's heart-warming at the same time. And the bad people are called The Unconsecrated. I'll never forgive Carrie Ryan for coming up with that before me. Oh, and they'll give you nightmares, just in case you were wondering.

Check this book out - I think you'll love it. It's now in bookstores nationwide.

And here's you a bonus review, this time for a movie: DUPLICITY is really, really good! It's from the same writer and director as the BOURNE movies and MICHAEL CLAYTON. I love this guy.

  1. Thanks for posting again, James. I think some people were getting restless. ^,^ I am always so jealous of how many comments you always get. Well, you're a famous author, so that's understandable.

I've been waiting for you to post again so I can tell you and your other fans that I've gone through your past posts all the way back to that one about Mr. Chu, taken all the Dashnog words invented by everyone, and compiled them in this Google document. It's a dictionary.
    Here's the link:

I think some people will enjoy seeing all their made-up words in one place. ^,^ I give a special shout-out kudos to Donna for making the whole thing up.

Now, I know that she probably wants to do something special with them, like put them in a book, so I'm not going to do anything with them, personally. In fact, I didn't change any of the words' original meanings or usages. All I added was official pronunciation, unless someone already supplied it. I hope you all appreciate it.

Oh!!! and BTW, James? I spotted Hunt for Dark Infinity in my Borders!!! At last it's come! Now I just have to wait until it's available in the library.

My word is miderals. Seriously. Just one letter away from minerals. I know! It could mean the pills you take when you're sick with a cold or something. "I deed to dake my miderals dow." Get it?

Whoops, didn't work. Zyess. When you're trying to convince someone to do something. Pronunciation: zee-YES. Usage: "I don't know what to say." "Zyess!"

  3. Well, you posted your review of the book before I did. I echo everything you said. A really good book.

  4. Dashner- So glad to get a review of Duplicity from someone I trust. I was thinking about seeing it and now I will for sure. Also, I saw that title, "Forest of Hands and Teeth", at my B&N yesterday but I didn't pick it up. Of course, now I'll have to. In the mean time, I'm catching up on my classic lit. I bought "Treasure Island" and am already a couple of chapters in. It's already promising to be a swashbuckling read. :)

  5. I'm echoing Magenta on this one, I was getting a little restless for a new post. Yep. Officially addicted to the Dash-man.

Thanks for the book review and I'm totally psyched to see Duplicity now. (I love Clive Owen. Inside Man...rocked my world.)

  7. A funeral? #1, I'm so sorry! I hope we can all make you feel better. Lots of love to #1, guys.

Magenta, me likey! I think Donna was trying to do this, too. I really hope Dashnog gets famous one day. Oh, and I love the miderals joke.

Everyone be sure and check out FOREST and Carrie's website.

Deborah, glad you agree. It's awesome, huh?

  8. Hey #1! My condolences. I hope you're doing okay. It's never easy dealing with the death of someone you love. Just remember you have friends you can lean on.

  9. Lexicon- Love Clive Owen, too. Inside Man wasn't my favorite, although Clive Owen was amazing in it. I just didn't love the story that much. Totally not his fault. :)

  10. Man you guys are quiet today. Here I was, all geared up to respond to some comments, and everybody's out shopping or reading. Or maybe actually working!

Clive Owen is some kind of studliness indeed. I do think Julia would choose me over him in REAL life, however.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I assume Julia is your wife. And to her choosing you over Clive Owen I will only say, You never can be sure. Sarcasm intended. :)

    ReplyDelete
  12. Actually, I meant Julia Roberts in Duplicity. They should have cast me in that one.

And yeah, I'm kidding. Even I would choose Clive Owen over me.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Is it just me or was Clive Owen one of the assassins in Bourne Identity?

  14. Sounds right up my alley - thanks for adding to my ever growing To Read list!

  15. Thanks for the info! I'll check into it!

  16. Wow Dashner, you're just the man for information. Look at you enlightening the masses!

  17. Mr. Dashner,
Great books!! I've been following your books since you first published A Door in the Woods. That was good, and after that your books just seem to get better, good job!!!!
The Thirteenth Reality is superb. I haven't read anything like it (by saying this I mean it is really really good). I have never read an author like you before. You incorporate everything that makes a story interesting, easy to follow, funny and you make the story so exciting that I can't put it down.
Thanks for all of the great reads!
I can't wait for Book 3 of the Thirteenth Reality!!

  19. It must be as close to bearing a child as a guy can get...sort of. :) It's nice to see the pride you have in your early works.

  20. There are two reasons why I'll never see Duplicity:
    1) Julia
    2) Roberts

    ReplyDelete
  21. Graham, give her one more shot. You'll like this movie.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I covet that book's title; I will have to get it, both for that and because you have great taste.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Curses! They're all on hold at all of the libraries in my area. Looks like I'm going to have to camp out at Barnes and Noble.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Magenta,
I can't open the list. Thanks for sharing it. I have a list I was alphabetizing for Dashner at the conference and I am going to change a few little things if/when I use the words in a story. Still you ROCK and I wish I could view it. I'll have to work on why my computer is hating me today.

Dashner, I will post on the new comment string.

Dashnog--Intin [in tin]--an exclamation of disbelief. usage: "What intin were you thinking?"

  25. I just have to say I am officially jealous of you because I just went to my library to get "Hunt for Dark Infinity" and "Forest of Hands and Teeth"...both of which are still in processing and don't even have bar codes to let them be checked out. So, I am asking, did Dashner get to read "Forest" already? You are too connected! I want a copy of these books!

    ReplyDelete
  26. You get an arc but we may not whats up with that lol....

    ReplyDelete
  27. my last comment was kinda hasrsh so sorry

    ReplyDelete
  28. Donna, maybe you can't see my dictionary by clicking the link, but you can copy it and paste it. Or have you tried already? If that's the case, then I can't help you. Wish I could. If you could just see all the words I've collected, you'd love it. It's quite comprehensive.

Hmm. Thleug. Could possibly mean a weird type of wind instrument, like a flute, except it doesn't make a whistley sound, more like a bassoon or something. A deep kind of noise.

  29. I read this book not too long ago after a Twitter friend begged and pleaded and bullied me into moving it up MT TBR. I was entralled from page 1. Loved it. Can't wait to see what Ryan comes up with next.
