I love good news. No, really, I do.

Wow, what an incredible day.

My wonderful, awesome, god-like agent, Michael Bourret, sent me an email early this morning. Since he's two hours ahead of me and being the nice dude he is, he didn't want to wake me up. So the email said that he had good news and that I needed to call him.

I figured I'd wait a couple hours since I didn't really care what he had to say. Well, not so true, but I DID use the bathroom first.

Anyway, the news: it looks like Random House is going to do some pretty incredible things to promote THE MAZE RUNNER. First of all, they're sending me on a pre-publicity tour to NY, SanFran, Chicago, Seattle, etc. in May, then on a full publicity tour when the book comes out. According to Michael, this is very rare. Sometimes they do one or the other, but rarely both. So yeah, we're stoked.

I then got a call from Noreen Marchisi, Publicity Manager for RH Children's Books, just a bit later, introducing herself and to talk over dates and whatnot. (She was going to call me first, but Michael told her he'd better do that in case I fainted or made weird goat sounds upon hearing the news.)

Another exciting part of this is that it looks official: the release date has been moved up to October 13th. So we finally know!!!

Now, none of this is set in stone, and with the economy, who knows what could happen. But for now, I'm going to enjoy the fact that these wonderful people think so much of my book that they're willing to commit these kinds of resources.

In the meantime, I hope all my wicked awesome readers out there will enjoy the second book of THE 13TH REALITY. Have a nice day.

  9. Congratulations! That's awesome news! I think we should tell as many people about it as possible so that the tour must go on. They couldn't disappoint all those Dashner fans could they?

  12. Thats awsome! I can't wait till Maze comes out. I wonder if Salt Lake is on the list. Also, I did like 13th Reality. It was a really good book. I'm sad now because I have to wait a year. Congrat's again. Thats great news.

  13. San Fran? Awesome! Just to prove how much of a psycho fan I am, I might make the three hour drive from Reno. Then you could meet my psycho family. Hehe!

    ReplyDelete
  14. I know, I'm way stoked on the city list, too, and hope to meet some of you. I've never been to Seattle or NY, and only Chicago through the airport.

Just an FYI, the prepub tour might not necessarily be open public events. I think those are for booksellers and that type of thing, since there are no books to sell.

But I'm sure I'll go to those same places in the fall when the book actually comes out.

  15. Whee! Tour dates are up! The fact that I'm going to have to drive out to Mesa to see you is a little less than thrilling... AND that I won't get my B&N employee discount when buying your book cuz I'm a cheap loser. But oh well. =) You better be ready for me, James. Go find the pictures I posted of you and I from last time, brush up on how your BEST bodyguard EVER looks, and I'll be seeing you sometime next week. =)

  16. Geez James. It seemes every time you blog there's more good news. I'd hate you if I didn't love you so much. Good for you! Can't wait for Maze Runner.

    ReplyDelete
  17. That's great news, James, but I'll know you've hit the big time when Eagle Mountain makes your tour list :)

  18. Kirsten, I'm glad you saw that. And I may need you. As you can see from the comments, I have some pretty psycho fans.

I'm kidding, people, I'm kidding. Slim it nice and calm (A phrase from Maze Runner).

Jennifer, it's okay to hate authors. As long as you use it for motivation.

Deb, they ALMOST chose EM over NY, but in the end went against their gut. Sorry.

Verification word this time: chick. I'm not lying. And I was trying to keep this blog pc. My bad.

  19. Hey, if you want me to be your bodyguard, just say the word. I always had a good time uh... giving you a hard time. =) And we know I'm so muscular. Just convince the Deseret people that I'm totally legit. OOH OOH can I be part of your POSSE?!? Can we make shirts and have a secret handshake??

  20. Kirsten, don't you check your own blog comments?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Lol, no I don't read the comments on my own blog. I should probably get e-mail notifications or some nonsense like that. I've been on LiveJournal for something like 7 years. I can't change. Creature of habit like you wouldn't believe. =)

I think I have Thursday off next week so I was planning on coming out to the signing then. I tried to post this comment as a reply to the comment you left me, but it wouldn't let me. I can't even comment myself. LAME.

by the way thx for coming to my school today

  23. Are goat noises a frequent problem for you on receiving good news? With your "good news" streak as of late, it must sound like a virtual barnyard at your house. ;)

When Maze Runner hits the NYT BS list I'm guessing it's going to be the Billy Goats Gruff Chorus performing live!

    ReplyDelete
  24. DASHNER!!!!
Go YOU! How cool is that a real live book tour with hotels and bookstores and fainting fans...oh wait your the one fainting...sorry about that.
Really though...All Hail MAZE RUNNER. and the recession. (personally I think you would have gotten the tour even in a good economy with lots of competition. then again I still haven't read your books so maybe I should withhold judgement on that one.)

Are you ready? cause here comes the DASHNOG word of the day. (LOL to chick btw.)

"Crotot" it will mean a gutteral noise similar to that made by a goat when surprised during a meal.
USE= Did you hear Dashner's crototan laugh?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Wow, Donna, you conjugated it and everything!

Go, Chic! (ahem) I mean Dashner! Can I just voice my shock that you've never been to NYC? There are a couple of bakeries you need to check out, if you have time, that I can recommend. And you must do some geeky sight seeing like taking the ferry to the Statue of Liberty. It'll be a travesty if you don't.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Hey, Dashner I have been thinking a lot lately and was wondering when you get even more famous will you still remember me? (Like with goat noises or our secret handshake or etc)btw i am saving up for a safe to put all my offical james dashner stuf....lol

  29. That's awesome news JD! Do you think Boston area might be on the agenda?

    ReplyDelete
  30. LexiconLuvr, thanks for the great laugh. Why are goats so funny to me?

Heather, I still don't know about BEA. I might find out this week. Did you see that I thanked you for that awesome review on Amazon? Appreciate it!

    ReplyDelete
  42. #1, it's all good. Just remember I read every single comment and always appreciate them. I try to spread out and be fair in responding to everyone in my limited time, especially being on tour.

Have faith in me and I'll have faith in you. :-)

As for ARCs, I really doubt that's gonna work out. I'm in a whole new ball game, and I think they keep prepub stuff close to the vest. But we'll see.

  43. Have faith in me
Cause there are things that I've seen I don't believe
So cling to what you know and never let go
You should know things aren't always what they seem

I said I'd never let you go, and I never did
I said I'd never let you fall and I always meant it
If you didn't have this chance then I never did
You'll always find me right there, again

    I've gone crazy
Cause there are things in the streets I don't believe
So we'll pretend it's alright and stay in for the night
    What a world
I'll keep you safe here with me

I said I'd never let you go, and I never did
I said I'd never let you fall and I always meant it
If you didn't have this chance then I never did
You'll always find me right there, again

I said I'd never let you go, and I never did
I said I'd never let you fall and I always meant it
If you didn't have this chance then I never did
You'll always find me right there, again

They've got me on the outside, looking in
But I can't see at all
With the weight of the world on my shoulders,
They just wanna see me fall

They've got me on the outside, looking in
But I can't see at all
With the weight of the world on my shoulders,
They just wanna see me fall

    Have faith in me

I said I'd never let you go, and I never did
I said I'd never let you fall and I always meant it
If you didn't have this chance then I never did
You'll always find me right there, again

I said I'd never let you go, and I never did
I said I'd never let you fall and I always meant it
If you didn't have this chance then I never did
You'll always find me right there, again

I said I'd never let you go, and I never did
I said I'd never let you go, and I never did
I said I'd never let you go, and I never did

  46. that not cool about the arcs.......were still good friends I hope....happy joyous daylight savings ......

  47. That would be GREAT if you make it back to Chicago for a public event. I'm only 4 hours away from there, and have a friend that I visit on a regular basis, so I'd be sure to make it into town for that! In fact, I found a copy of the 13th Reality Book 2 at the Borders in Chicago yesterday - first time I've seen it on a shelf!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Dude! That is so cool!
