And so it begins

Hi there. Technically, I've had a blog for a couple of years, but I only really used it to make announcements on my website, http://www.jamesdashner.com/. Due to extreme popular demand (well, my friend told me to do it), I'm going to start a new, separate blog that tells of my adventures in the next few months as I await the release of my new book, THE JOURNAL OF CURIOUS LETTERS.

I've had other books published, but not on the same scale as this new series. I'm with a much bigger publisher and will be the recipient of a much bigger marketing budget (all of which I will tell you about in the coming blogposts). In fact, this book will have a first print run in hardback that exceeds the total combined sales of my other 4 books (trade paperback). So yeah, I'm a half excited, bumbling goofball and half nervous, nail-biting wreck.

I hereby declare and promise that I will post often and respond to comments. I received many complaints about my poor job of updating the announcements blog, but I had a reason. Nothing's worse than making a big announcement only to have it disappear under new and less-exciting posts. So I will keep that blog only for news. This is the one where I will really try to tell the story of what's going to happen to the Little Author That Could. I'll also answer questions and babble about random topics.

I don't know how people will find out about this, but we shall see. Tell your friends and neighbors. If you don't have any friends or neighbors, then you need to begin brushing your teeth and move out of that wee little hut in the desert.

In my first few posts, I will tell the basic story of how I got to this point, so that everyone can catch up. Then we'll journey the long road together. Where it leads, nobody knows.

But we're going to have a fun time getting there.

Okay, I can tell this blog is a lie already. Everyone knows you don't have any friends. But congrats on the blog anyway.

Cool, a new blog to read when I'm supposed to be working on my book. I'm looking forward to reading about your journey to fame and fortune.

Ah, how nice. The first day of my new blog, and already I've been insulted. I do admit I happen to know Jeff Savage, so I'm not alarmed. I say this because I also happen to know that Jeff Savage is an idiot.

I only have lunch with him on a weekly basis because I feel sorry for his pathetic little life.

I agree with Stephanie. Thanks for providing yet another way for authors to procrastinate. We're happy to accommodate. I love blogs because they helped me kick my addiction to emails. Now I'm addicted to blogs.

Dude.. I can't wait to read about your adventures. It'll give me something to do other than post payments all day.

Wait a minute---I thought JEFF was the friend who told you to join the blogging world, but then, he never updates his personal blog either so I guess that would be hypocritical for him to encourage you to do so. Here's to hoping you're more regular at posting to you blog than I have been lately!

Welcome to the real blogosphere, James -- it's about time!

And what's up with Jeff's blog, anyway? I finally gave up checking it for new posts 'cause there never were any.

Great, James. Can't wait to read more about your experiences.

YAY, James/Dude! Can't wait to read all about this incredible journey you're on. I'm so freakin' jealous, but hope to suck up all those positive vibes of success emitting from your every word, and hopefully--somehow--make it happen for me as well.

As a matter of fact, you can just call me Grasshopper from now on. But don't expect me to call you, Master. (That'd be pushing it! Dude, works much better.)

Thanks to everyone for saying hi. Speaking of which, my good friend Rebecca Shelley just got an agent, so CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Her first book comes out next year (Red Dragon Codex), and I was lucky enough to get an Advance Reader Copy. I'm really excited for ya, Shelley.

Also, just so the world knows, Lisa Aston is my older sis, one of the coolest people on the planet.

JAMES!! I added you to my Google Reader. I'll try and get this up on the website tomorrow.

Remind me to tell you a nifty little story about a conversation I had with a Nationally Published Author. ;)

Oh, and I'm uhhh...writing...something ;)

Love ya bro! Can't wait to see future posts! I'm adding my blog for ya, it has pics of the boy and boring posts about potty training.

Do I have awesome sisters or what? Sarah is the one who does my website for me---check it out, she's good.

You better be writing, since you've promised to do it for years. Can't wait to read it. I hope it's not about a boy wizard who goes off to boarding school.

Cool! Your blog is almost as fun to read as your books!

Way to go, Dashner Dude. Always knew you'd go far with your writing. (I'm sure there's something witty I should add there, but it's too early to think witty).

James -

Yeah, along with others, I gave up on Jeff's blog too. I sincerely hope you will do much better with yours (although I don't think it will be that hard to do!) :)

I'm looking forward to hearing more about your adventures with your newest book coming out.

Hey - I'm so excited you decided to finally blog like the rest of us...LOL No kidding, way to go. I can't wait for your new series to come out. Great stuff!

Hello James! Just thought I'd check out your blog. Blogging isn't my thing but since you're my brother-in-law I thought I'd show the support. Also, I just wanted to let you know that Madison finished the final Jimmy Fincher book last week and she really loved how it ended. She showed her new 3rd grade teacher and she was very impressed and wants us to bring the books in so other kids in her class can read them too. How'd you like that run on sentence? I'd be a great writer. Maybe I should practice my drawing so someday I can illustrate one of your books.

This is great that so many people are leaving comments! I was hoping for one or two, but this is awesome. Even my crazy sister-in-law Paige. Who has never beaten me in any card game. Ever.

I like to start at the beginning, so here I am at your first post.

Just found your blog through a mention in a comment on someone else's blog (I blog stalk as a procrastinative endeavor).

You didn't mention the blog when we met. You just told me about your website, and how your DS runs your facebook account...so I wasn't surprised that A) you haven't added me yet ;-) or B) that you don't seem to get on there ever.

But if I were putting out 25K words in a week I would probably never check it either.

So anyway, I'll say here what I wrote you there...that I really enjoyed chatting with you at the library event. And I am currently reading 13th Reality to my 9yo son Gator, who doesn't like to read, but I get him to read every other page in order to keep going. It's a great carrot; one that allows me to motivate him, while he gets to stay up past his bedtime because he's reading. Win-Win for everyone!

Right now Tick's in Alaska. Can't wait to find out what happens next. But it'll have to wait till Tuesday because I'm working this weekend...criss crossing the country back and forth. Kind of like you'll be doing for the next 6 weeks. I hope you like peanuts! ;-)

Cheerio,
Blue (can you remember my name IRL?)
