Good grief

1. Wow, what in the H-E-double hockey sticks happened the last few weeks? Suddenly our comments section has exploded, a veritable community for all my psycho fans to get to know each other. (Remember, the word psycho is the highest possible compliment I can give)

I love it. Keep it up cuz it entertains me greatly during the gaps.

And don't worry, you've convinced me. We will be starting a forum soon. When, I don't know. But soon.

2. MAZE has started showing up in more and more places.

Here it is on the Random House site: CLICK HERE

Here it is on Random House Audio: CLICK HERE

Here it is on Goodreads: CLICK HERE

On Amazon, of course: CLICK HERE

Here it is on the Canadian Random House site: CLICK HERE Yay for Canada!

Now, unless you're my mother, I don't expect you to actually look at all of those links. But it's just kinda cool to see it popping up everywhere. Now I just can't wait till they finalize the cover so I can quit seeing those awful "Cover not available" signs.

3. SCORCH is now up to 40,360 words. Loving every minute of it. Today I had to brainstorm to describe a shovel in the most vicious way possible. My good friend and author Emily Wing Smith helped by doing some research here in the SLC Library (yeah, she could've used Google, but where's the fun in that?). Shovels. Fascinating things. Let's just say my shovel ended up having teeth.

4. Check out this schedule for my prepub buzz tour: On May 4th I'll be in NY. May 5th, Chicago. May 6th, SLC. May 7th, San Francisco. May 8th, Seattle. That's a lot of flying in 5 days. Can't wait!

5. If you live in Utah, come see me at the Sugarhouse B&N this coming Monday night!

6. Finally, a favor. If you've read THE HUNT FOR DARK INFINITY, please go review it on Amazon. Let the world know what you thought!

First to comment!

By the way, Dashnog word is ringled, which I think is a good word for excited. I am so ringled to read Dark Infinity. I don't when I will, but I look forward to it.

I will be incredibly ringled if/when you say you're touring Florida or I get to receive an ARC.
Bye!

Magenta said...

Sorry, I meant to stick "know" in between "don't" and "when."

Yea, I really was the first! Plepi!

(That's the new word. It's just an exclamation, like yippee!)

Deborah Talmadge said...

I guess I'm both two and three. I can't be there for your Monday appearance, but I'm looking forward to seeing you at the conference. I teach a young man over here in Colorado who is major smit with the Dashner author. So much so he's taken up writing on his own. It's interesting stuff, coming from an eleven-year-old.

Deborah Talmadge said...

"in major smit...." Sheesh

I've just submitted my first ever Amazon review! :)

Luisa Perkins said...

Wow! That *is* a lot of flying. Wave when you're in NY (of course I hope to see you at LDSS before then)! I look forward to October 13.

The Scarlet Tart said...

Alright, Dashner. I'm working on it. I finally hit a groove in "The Journal of Curious Letters" so I should be done with it today or tomorrow. Then I can start Dark Infinity. That IS the next one, correct?

That schedule looks insane. Too bad you don't have more time in each city. Half the fun in traveling is getting to see some of the sights.

Frizat! Yet another exclamation...more akin to Pow! Can you handle the THAT!

The Scarlet Tart said...

Like the old Batman, people.

Q&A Q 4 U:
I've noticed that your skills in storytelling get better and better with each successive book. What would you say has helped you to increase your writing skills? (No offense. You were good before but you manage to get better with each book. How are you doing it?)
Do you study/work on that aspect or would you say it's something you've picked up/gleaned from the journey?
And lastly, what would you say has been the biggest help with regards to said improvement?

*Hope you're not offended by any of this. It really is a compliment.

Heather Moore said...

All cool. But when the heck will
the cover be ready?

You definitely need a forum.

James Dashner said...

I'm so ringled I could say frizat! Ah, the joys of Dashnog. (if you're new here, I can't imagine how confused you must be right about now)

Lex, that is DEFINITELY a compliment. If I'm not getting better with each book, then something's wrong.

I don't really know the answer as to why. Mainly because I think pracice makes you better, just as with anything. But also, I've learned a ton from going to writer's conferences. A lot.

Thanks for that!

Arlene, I'm so glad you're finding it possible to slog through my book. Your patience must be never ending. har har, just kidding.

Heather, I know you feel my pain. I can't WAIT to see the cover.

Thanks to Suey for the review, and I'm very excited to see so many of you at the storymakers conference in April.

Dashner,
Thank you for the new post. And I can tell you what has happened in the last few weeks. You met some particularly psycho fans and gave us permission to bring the funny to the blog. I try to tell ppl just how entertaining we EM writers think we are and no one believes us but we really do think we're hilarious and so we post to each other quite often...and now you get to be in on the fun.

Not to discredit all the amazing actual fans you have who have jumped on to hear the continuous good news updates on Maze Runner. Talk about a fan base with a life of its own. (ahem..see random thoughts...ahem)

Dashnog update-55 words and growing. getting quite the lexicon. I will have to send it to you soon so you can continue to confound the masses with your references to the fabulous fictional language of Dashnog.
word 56 is SLYCO [sly co]--it means a true joke/ a joke, sarcastic comment or satyr that covers a truth. Either funny and true or sarcastic and true.
USAGE:
"I'm offended that you haven't read my books," Dashner said, grinning to take any sting from the words.
"He's kidding," thought Donna, "But it's a slyco."
note: no directly corresponding English word for a truth joke/ but other languages have it...Korean=chin-dahm

Hey, when do you plan on coming to Georgia? Remember me? I wrote to you a while back for some advice. I am going to keep your response, because I KNOW you are going to hit the NYT list and then I can say that I corresponded with a NYT best selling author!

Keep up the good work, Dashner Dude!

Diva Donna said...

Bross--da bomb/ a slang word for excellent, wonderful, or extraordinary. Can be applies to people.
Usage: Dashner is the bross. LOL

J.N. Future Author said...

and of course I read the comment about your mother AFTER looking at all the maze runner stuff! hehe

I still think the Maze Runner was one of the coolest ideas to ever hit you upside the head!

(oh, you need to announce the title of book 3. someone I know wants to know. but I don't want to ruin the surprise!)

Dashnog: dishery. ha, speaks for itself!

J.N. Future Author said...

psychotic is good! that is how books are invented! ^.~

Dashnog: gragawel. why do I always get the weird ones? I know, it can mean weird! this is so gragawel!

The Scarlet Tart said...

I don't consider it slogging. In fact, it's been a nice read. I like the clues and I like how smart Tick is. I think the dialog is funny and accurate (a must). It's catching my attention. So I would call that a win for you.

I was going to try to say something witty and clever but I'm out. Keep up the writing. As always, you're an inspiration. No sarcasm intended.

The Scarlet Tart said...

Have I mentioned that I'm completely envious of my writing group mainly because they are all in Utah while I live in Reno? So, why all the envy? The cool dinners they get to go to. I'm green.

I've wrote a review, but it's not, how shall we say, ahem! very good. I'll see about coming to the Sugar House B&N. Maybe I'll have you sign my copy of Dark Infinity... ANYWAY, forums is definitely a good idea. Maybe you could drop by the West Jordan B&N? Maybe.

Word: Oklepodledropenparkalot= a kingdom of five different races, the okles, the podles, the dropens, and the parkalots. Also it can be used as in cool

Oklepodledropenparkalot huh?

The Scarlet Tart said...

Garrett- somehow I don't think that was a verification word. Interesting, none the less.

James Dashner said...

Garrett, what're you talking about? That was an awesome review. Thanks! I'll be at the WJ B&N in April sometime.

Anon in Georgia, welcome!

Hmmm on the Book 3 title, JN. We shall see. Book 2's isn't even official yet.

Unknown said...

Come on guys, don't start firsting on Dashner's blog...that just leads to worse things.

Hey James, I put up a review on Amazon. Should've done it after reading the ARC a few months back, but oh well. :-)

Oh, and "fulayb"

James Dashner said...

Wait, Graham, who are you on the amazon reviews?

The Scarlet Tart said...

Well, I just read all the reviews on Amazon for Dark Infinity and now I can't wait to get my hands on it! Of course, I still have some of Journal to finish, but that's just a little detail.

I just got back from a great karate class. Grab arts rock!

Unknown said...

It says my name on there. I just checked though and my review didn't publish. I assume they screen them? I'll check back in a day or two to see if they posted it.

I work part-time at a bookstore, and the rest of the time I'm running an Internet business...basically the bookstore job gives me something stable, but it also gives me a ton of sweet perks, like access to ARCs, employee discounts, etc. I get really familiar with products as they come out and stuff. One of my absolute biggest pet peeves is authors in the middle reader/YA genre that read a best seller, write a knockoff, and go to sleep that night patting themselves on the back like they're some kind of genius.

Your books have been a breath of fresh air from all of that; there's literally nothing like 13th Reality on the market. It's exceptionally original and unique, and does more to further its genre as opposed to the aforementioned demon spawn of knockoff writers. Keep up the great work, James.

James, you are one cool guy! Crazy traveling, Maze Runner on several websites, and exploding blog commentary. Life if good, my friend!

My Dashnog word for today is Stamati. It means a confounding of thought... a brain freeze moment.

Usage: I had a deeply profound thought, but the stamati had me sounding like an idiot.

Deb said...

I often have stamati issues :)

The Scarlet Tart said...

James- are you a John Stockton fan? I just noticed a reference to Gonzaga University and I can't help but wonder because it's such an obscure college except that Stockton went there. My husband is a big fan and I don't blame him since he was freaking awesome!

All of these comments are going to make you feel popular. We can't have that! And yet, here I am commenting to let you know that I'm passing along a blog award to you. What was I thinking? Okay, maybe it was because all of my kids are LOVING your books and I'm under orders to go get the second 13th Reality book even though our Borders doesn't have it yet. My kids plan to take care of that little oversight this weekend. :)

James Dashner said...

Shay, there is a Barnes and Noble in Sugarhouse, around 1100 East in SLC. It's on this coming Monday night.

Aaron B, THE SCORCH TRIALS is the sequel to THE MAZE RUNNER.

Deb, I love stamati. I could totally use that word in everyday language.

Graham, that is extremely nice of you! I'm way honored you think that, thanks.

Arlene, he mentions Gonzaga because it's in Spokane, very close to Deer Park where the book takes place.

The Scarlet Tart said...

That's unfortunate.

The Scarlet Tart said...

Glad to report that, true to my word, I finished Curious Letters today. I am also happy to report that I liked it enough to want to read the next one! Somewhere in the middle it morphed into a completely different story. Rock on, James!

LexiconLuvr- I read "I am a Not a Serial Killer" last night and finished it at three in the morning, too! That's just cool.

And, yes, James. I am capable of reading and finishing two books at the same time, given that my kids don't pester me too much. Although, technically I didn't start Serial Killer until 9 last night.

The Scarlet Tart said...

And I finished Journal in the afternoon. So I wasn't reading them at the same time. Just in the same day.

Since Seattle is the last place you're going to visit, how many days will you be spending here? This is slightly random, but while your in WA, you have to make sure you count all of the Starbuck's you see (an amusing way to pass the time plus it shows you why Seattle is known as Starbuck capital of the world). My record so far is 26 on a short quarter mile walk. Beat that! :)

Hello.
You came to my school in AZ about two weeks ago and you mentioned an author (a woman I believe) that would be releasing a book in May. I can't remember her name. My students were asking me about it so I thought I would start here. By the way I am almost done reading Book 1 of the 13th reality and it is GREAT!!!! I can't wait to read Book 2. Thanks for your help with this.

The Scarlet Tart said...

Her name is Aprilynne Pike and the book is called "Wings". It will be released on May 5th. Yay! She's awesome!

James Dashner said...

Stephanie, Arlene's right. WINGS. It's gonna be big!

Next JK Rowling? I'd settle for next Stephenie Meyer. Har har.

Anon, come on! I'm stressed out enough! :-)

Heather Justesen said...

That's awesome, James. Oh, the joy of seeing your book listed to purchase EVERYWHERE only MONTHS before it goes to print. (I'm still waiting to find out if my editor still loves my title after she reads the book--um, I'm thinking prepub is going to be much, much shorter for me. lol)

Still, very cool, I hope you're still getting a thrill at the thought of you book being listed on Amazon when it's you're tenth national title and you've spent fourty-three and a half weeks on the NYC best seller list. (don't ask me why the half, just go with me on this).

Unknown said...

Thank you so much!!!! I have been racking my brain for weeks!
