MAZE chosen for BEA Buzz Forum

Hey, great news! According to my agent, this is very mega cool: my upcoming book, THE MAZE RUNNER, was one of six books chosen for the YA Buzz Forum at Book Expo America (NYC, May 28-31). I get to be on the panel with my editor (Krista Marino) on Friday at 2:30.

Read the announcement: CLICK HERE.

EDIT: And today it was in Publisher's Weekly: CLICK HERE.

Sweet!

Speaking of BEA, I don't think I ever told you guys about my drama. Originally I thought I was going for the publisher of 13th Reality, but then that got kaboshed (because of the economy I guess). I was heartbroken for a little while, but then Random House said they wanted to bring me out for a dinner and a signing. And then this Buzz Forum thing happened on top of that.

So, I'm going, and now you know why I'm so excited! To have it, then not have it, then to have it again actually makes it a little more sweeter. And I'll appreciate it much more. Can't wait. Better yet, my wife and I are going out a few days early to experience the Big Apple for the first time.

Which brings me to another thing. My pre-pub buzz tour has been pushed back one week (now May 11-15). They told me it was because some Little, Brown author was already scheduled for that prior week.

Also, since I'm going to NY just 2 weeks after that, they removed NY from the tour list and replaced it with Washington DC. So now it's San Francisco, Seattle, Salt Lake City, Chicago, and DC. That's gonna be quite the time span - right after BEA I'm going to the big BYU writer's conference with Krista.

Anyway, just wanted to share. If you missed my review of THE FOREST OF HANDS AND TEETH, read my prior post. It's a great book!

THE SCORCH TRIALS now stands at 47,130 words.

Ok, just had to make sure I got it in there. I've wanted to be first for a long time!

CONGRATULATIONS! How exciting for the BEA! You're about to be one busy dude! Take some pics for us and post them on the blog so we can "experience" your awesomeness through vicarious living. =]

Hooray for the status update! I love those. Are your fingers on fire? Aloe Vera. Just sayin'.

That sounds like good news!

What does kaboshed mean? It sounds funny, very much like a Dashnog word, but I don't see it in my own dictionary.

How do you get to participate in the forum?

And now I'd like to add on a word. Ousness. Perhaps the feeling that a dwelling is fit to live comfortably in. "This place has got a certain 'ousness to it, don't ya think?"
Huh? Huh?

I sure do like making up words like that. Thank Blogger for Dashnog.

Going to Book Expo is on my list of Things To Do Before I Die. I hear that you should bring a really huge bag, because there are free books wherever you look. Free books. Can you say heaven?

kaboshed? you have never heard that before? it means like wreaking, botching, in general making it not happen ^.^ I dunno how to explain it!

^.^ gratz on BEA! ^.^ that is way cool! your future is so totally upon you!

oh, a note to number 1 fan....are you loumac?

Does anyone know what happened to her? I emailed her and got back a nasty letter telling me the email address I used for her is actually her mothers....

then she dissapeared, her blog is gone and the Author Stalkers are disbanded....she was way cool! I hope to find her......

How did your signing go last night? I logged on to read about it and was sadly let down. CONGRATS on Maze and BEA. Just remember those of us who supported you way back when, okay?

Congratz Dashner! I wanted to go to the B&N last night, but my parents wanted to wait till April. Oh well.

It sounds like a Cinderella story, but you're a guy. A macho guy, of course, and no glass slipper. But doesn't this feel surreal? Major good on ya. You deserve it! And, can't wait to finally meet you in person at the BYU conference. I'll bring my book and YOU'LL be right there on the back of it. Super cool. By then I'll probably have to pay to shake your hand, you'll be so famous!

That's great. But don't forget about us little people you've left in your dust. Congrats.

J.D. Congrats on the awesome news! I hope you and your wife have a great time in N.Y.

I think my husband would faint if I could ever take him to N.Y. due to my published book (which I don't have...but only dream of).

I'm so excited for you guys! :)

BTW, what does kaboshed mean? It kind of makes me hungry when I read it. hum...

P and I would love to take you to lunch or dinner when you are in NYC; let me know if you have any free time. So exciting about the Buzz!

Wow, you guys have been busy today. That's what I get for spending my time reading and catching up on Chuck and Heroes. James, congrats as always. I have no doubt you'll remember us. We wield too much power. ;) I am so excited for you for your NY trip, especially being able to take your wife a little early. There is a place called the Tisserie (google it) that has the most delicious tarts known to man. The closest thing to the ones I had in Paris that I have ever come across. Delightful! Take your wife and wow her. :)

p.s. ride the subway. it's the only way to travel.

Try not to forget all us little people when you're back east, James! Still can't wait for Maze.

Today's word is Durversh. It's a schoolyard insult for small people.

Okay, so I seem to be coming in late...I haven't read any of your books yet, but from what I've heard of them from you, and Graham, they sound awesome and I do plan on getting them. : ) It was fun "saving" your seat for you tonight...I'll do it anytime. : ) Good luck at the BEA!

James Dashner said...

Thanks everyone for the congrats!

Wait, is kaboshed not a word? I'm confused. What am I thinking of?

I'm not sure what the buzz forum entails. I'll give you guys details when I find out.

Angie, of course!

Luisa, we should totally do lunch. We can talk more at the conference.

KitKat, the Seattle thing will be part of the prebuzz tour. Not sure what we do, but no signings or anything like that. Details coming hopefully.

Graham and Roxanne, you were most excellent at saving my seat tonight. The Fablehaven 4 launch party was quite amazing!!!

#1 and everyone else who said it: I COULD NEVER FORGET YOU GUYS! I'll always remember the original fans. Always.

Arlene, thanks for the tip. Can't wait to ride the subway.

James Dashner said...

Oh, and Enna: sorry, no MAZE ARCs. And I don't know if I'll be getting many....

Heather Moore said...

I just KNEW Random House would put The Maze Runner in BEA. They are so smart :)

The Scarlet Tart said...

No problem.

tompr, meaning beat or cadence.

Although the enemy were a great distance off, we could feel the tompr of their war drums reverberate in the ground beneath our feet.

Diva Donna said...

James congrats!

Arlene Love your daring dashnog skills.

Secret: I may actually be reading 13th reality soon. My friend got her hands on an extra copy...(and by extra I mean..it will be mine:)Unless the true heir to the throne takes it from me first but I think I've got her hidden away far enough that I can claim the book without any interference.

James, enjoy NY enjoy BEA and wow...thanks for the glimpse into the secret life of awesome authors. I can't wait to see what happens next. Will you be throwing a NYT bestseller party when you hit the list for MAZE??

James Dashner said...

Hey everybody, today I hit 50,000 words! I'm pretty sure that's about halfway done.

I like the idea of a party if I hit the NYT List this fall. I like it a lot. We can do it at one of the hotels and provide lots of free food. Someone remind me.

The Scarlet Tart said...

If there is free food, I'm there!

James! Totally AWESOME news!!!!!!!

The Scarlet Tart said...

Ha! My dashnog word is rommen. And because my family has been living on the stuff for a week or two, and as a nod to all those who have survived on it for much longer, it will mean Ramen...if you don't know what it is, you haven't lived.:)

Wow, I feel like I'm trespassing on some secret society. I found your blog a week or two ago and haven't closed the link since. What devoted fans you have. That's awesome. Between watching you at your school visits (yes, I'm the one who stalked you from one school to the next) and seeing your loyal followers and then hearing the great news about your book, my "I want to be like you some day" factor has quadrupled. Congratulations, and keep passing on your words of wisdom. Some of us are scrabbling for any pearls we can get.

Ok back to why I am writing you. I wanted to ask if THE FOREST OF HANDS AND TEETH is a book for like 7th or 8th grade readers. What would you say the age range for the book is?

The Scarlet Tart said...

Hey Dashner. This is my daily nod. What's up?

Diva Donna said...

Yeah what Arlene said....nod.

The Scarlet Tart said...

Oh come on, Dashner. Post something new for us raving fans!

Wait. I know I need to be nicer so let me start over.

James Dashner, will you please be so kind as to post a new update on your ever-more fascinating life? We psycho fans would be delighted. :)

Congratulations! That's way exciting. So good to finally meet you in person and to see snapshots of your favorite child. I wish I had brought my 13th Reality Books so I could have had two author signings for the price of one. Maybe next time.
