Greek Cover for Maze Runner

In Greece, the book will be called THE TEST. What do you guys think?

Some quick background: The book is coming out in March (I think) from Platypus Publications, the same publisher that did Twilight and Hunger Games in Greece. They told me that The Maze Runner didn't sound very cool in Greek, hence the title change. Also, they decided to use more of the full cover art by Philip Straub. I really love it!!!

I just might actually like it more than the US cover; love the angle of the doors, and you really get to feel a sense of depth and ominence!

I'm with Steph! I love that you can see how tall the walls are. It is very overpowering and gives you a sense of what those boys felt! Congrats! On the great cover!

The cover is awesome. I love it!

It makes me go "Ooooooooo!" :)

Cool! I wonder why they decided to show the top of the wall while in the U.S. cover they don't? Very spiffy, though.

WV: exceterh. The fancy spelling of ect.

Are they scared of tests in Greece? I can see them now, looking at the cover: "OH NO, not the test!!!! And the top of a wall?? Even worse!"

I actually like the cover a lot. I like the ominous clouds that are shown in this version. This version makes our version look like a stroll through a maze in the Queen's backyard (because we all know Queen's have mazes in their backyards).

Having read your book and I loved the way you paced the information and the reveal of the answers. I feel the title "The Test" takes away from that mystery and the intrigue of the plot. Its one less surprise for the readers to discover for themselves.

I love that the whole cover art is used for this book, and that your book will soon be selling in Greece. ^_^ But The Test? I don't know...

It's kind of funny, because the cover almost looks like it says To Tezt.

btw, what does the Maze Runner actually look like in Greek? I'd like to be the judge of which sounds better.

It looks great! And I can see why the name would appeal in that way. I'm very happy for you, James!

That's awesome :) I'm Greek so it's good to see my peeps having the chance to read it there :)But the title? Uh I don't know lol

Hi guys,
Wow, we are very happy that you like our cover!
Magenta, the Greek word for word translation of The Maze Runner would look like this: O Δρομέας στο Λαβύρινθο and it would sound a lot like this:
O Thromeas sto Lavyritho.

I agree with the other comments. The Greek cover is better. Sorry, Americans.

I like this one more than the US cover as well. It's beautiful!

Cool! But why not call it the maze runner? And when are you releasing the scorch trial cover?

That's so amazing! The cover looks awesome! :D

Wow, that's one intense cover. One of those covers that you pick up in the store. When I walked into Barnes and Noble I went in looking for Snakehead, but The Maze Runner caught my eye and I instantly picked it up. Ended up buying that instead.
This cover really makes you think, so does the other one. Congratulations on getting it published in Greece.

If only the US cover used the full picture! Seeing the top of the wall makes it so much more dramatic somehow.

I think it's awesome. So much better than the American version. I once mistaken the walls in the background to be bamboo trees. Not with the greek version.

Hey James,
That cover is excellent. Great typeface, more interesting image-- the skew kind of draws the reader in more. I like that you can see sky above it too-- it gives it a real-world size.

Congrats, man.

The cover does have a more ominous feel to it.

"The Test" sounds a little obvious. The title doesn't have to sound cool.

Awesome cover! I really like it. When are you reviling the the cover to the 3rd book of the 13th reality?

James, is there any way you can convince Delacorte Press to use the new cover? That would be freak'n awesome. (Except I already own the book with the current cover. Darn.)

The Greek cover looks scarier!
Good to see and hear you @ LTUE.

Greece? Holy cow, Dashner! That rocks!

I can't imagine The Maze Runner not sounding cool in any language, but I'll take your word for it.

It looks awesome, James! It's interesting that they flipped the sides of the gate so the spikes are on the opposite side.

You are becoming quite the sizzling hot author!

COOL!!!!

The Greek cover is great! More ominous, I think, which in turn ramps up excitement for the book within.

James, I don't know if you ever read blog reviews of your books, but I just finished a review of The Maze Runner for my blog:

Yeah, the image is better with more of the maze in there. Funny about the title change.

Love the cover! It gives a sense of dread to the maze

Karen Mittan said...

That's beautiful, James. Much better than the American cover, I think. Interesting that Greece didn't like The Maze Runner as a name. Wasn't the labyrinth Greek by origin?

Hey, It's Ryan Horton, you know, in your ward. Just finished THE MAZE RUNNER after about 2 hours of reading. Just wanted to let you know that I LOVED IT!!!

Picked up The Maze Runner and couldn't put it down. The title was the first thing to catch my eye. If it was called The Test, I don't think I would have picked it up. Have a great day and I look forward to your next book!

Love this cover!! It shows more of what I imagine things to look like but I thing the name change doesn't work...

Just finished the book in Greek and looking for experts of the book in english so I can read the original slang! The cover was what made me pick the book up not so much the title but the maze runner translated wouldn't have worked in greek so your publishers were right to change it!
