First Draft Done, Scorch Preview

I would just like to publicly announce (calmly and collectively) that I'm officially done with the first draft of THE DEATH CURE, the third and final book of THE MAZE RUNNER trilogy. I'm happy about this, but I'm choosing to act like I've been there before and not make a fool of myself. There'll be no giddy rants or silly phrases about dancing or jumping or kissing complete strangers, and certainly nothing about knocking over old ladies in the park, my old standard.

And now I have an incredibly busy two weeks of revising and editing before I send it off to my editor.

To celebrate, I thought I'd reveal the little summary thingamajig that will be on the inside cover flap of THE SCORCH TRIALS, because I've noticed it's not available anywhere on the Internet yet. Honestly, I don't know why. But since it'll be on the book, I'm assuming it's okay to share with you guys.

It's always impossible to make these things perfect. As I read the paragraphs, some things in it are KINDA true, but when you read the book you'll see it from a different perspective. But it definitely gives you the flavor of what the book is about. And it contains a lot of spoilers.

Personally, I don't think you should read it. I never do. I like to go into a book knowing absolutely nothing, which is the same reason I refuse to watch movie previews. But then again, most people think I'm weird about this, so whatever. If you want to read it, read it. If you don't, STOP NOW!

!SPOILER ALERT!

The Maze was only the beginning...

Solving the Maze was supposed to be the end. No more puzzles. No more Variables. And no more running. Thomas was sure that escape meant he and the Gladers would get their lives back. But no one really knew what sort of life they were going back to.

In the Maze, life was easy. They had food, and shelter, and safety... until Teresa triggered the end. In the world outside the Maze, however, the end was triggered long ago.

Burned by sun flares and baked by a new, brutal climate, much of the earth is a wasteland. Government has disintegrated--and with it, order--and now Cranks, people covered in festering wounds and driven to murderous insanity by the infectious disease known as the Flare, roam the crumbling cities hunting for their next victim... and meal.

The Gladers are far from done running. Instead of freedom, they find themselves faced with another trial. They must cross the Scorch, the most burned-out section of the world, and arrive at a safe haven in two weeks. And WICKED has made sure to adjust the variables and stack the odds against them.

Thomas can only wonder--does he hold the secret of freedom somewhere in his mind? Or will he forever be at the mercy of WICKED?

!END OF SPOILER ALERT!

I really think you guys will like it. It's very different from Book One, and you really start finding out what's going on behind the scenes, the bigger picture of WHY they're being put through these trials. Not everything, but a lot is answered. Of course, new questions arise...

Less than two months away!!! And remember, the paperback comes out in one week!

Congratulations! That must mean it's editing time now. Good luck getting #3 just right!

I wanted to correct you and say that your blog is NOT the first place I've seen the summary on the back of SCORCH. It's also on the Latiener's book blog, where they're now holding a contest for an ARC. For those interested, go to this link.

*Covers eyes* I'm not reading it!!
I'm totally with you on that. I hate reading the back of books or the inside flaps because it totally gives things away. Don't even get me started on examples.
I can't wait for my ARC to come! I'm nearly dying of excitement. Yippppppeeeeee!

Sigh. I loved the Maze Runner. I finished it in 2 hours it was so enticing. I could not put it down and I had 2 of my friends read it and they loved it just as much as I did. I can't wait to purchase The Scorch Trials.

i got the scorch trials a couple daus ago, and since then, i have read it at least foue times already, more for some sections i didnt know if id read it correctly or not. when i got it, last tuesday( i think) i immediatly sad down and read it, it was so inticing, and i kept getting one thing after another that i just couldnt stop. i read it twice that day. and four times since then. so a grand total of 6 times sofar. and im about to read it again. now, im starting to wish time travel was possible, so that i could go and buy a copy of the death cure right now, and try not to tell everyone about it! but there is no time travel, at least not yet, so im just stuck with even more questions now. some are still from the origional book, most coming from the arc. and watch out for page 121, second line. gramattical error there.

today, i think i did something that even thomas would have been proud of. even after what he goes through in the maze and in the scorch. i got my friend to read the maze runner. and its not impossible, but very close. he has a series that he reads nonstop, and he wond read anything else until he fonishes the series. but the problem is, there is another book that ia going to come out eventually. so he wont read anything but those books. but today, i told him that he had to read The Maze Runner. and he accepted. then, of course, being the awesome and generous person that i am, i offered th let him read my ARC of the scorch trials. but he has to borrow me copy of the maze runner, though, because for some unknown reason, neither our school library,or our public library, has The Maze Runner. ( when i can, i plan to get copies for both libraries.) so he is giong to borrow my books, but only one at a time, i couldnt stand them both being gone.that would be worse than fighting grievers, and the things in the scorch trials combined. and i promise not to give out any spoilers. but when you get a copy, be sure to check page 121, line 2. be sure there's not a typo there!

Dashner, i'm freaking out.
FREAKING. OUT.
The first reason, is, well, I have my first sacrament talk in Chruch today. Yikes!
The other reason is that I haven't gotten my ARC yet. What if it got stolen?! What if it went to someone else with my name?! Chills are running up and down my spine and I can't take it. I'm so paranoid, I think i'll go down and question the postal workers. I'm not joking.
