The Scorch Trials ARC Contest

As promised, today begins the official contest to win an advanced copy of the sequel to THE MAZE RUNNER. It's very simple:

I want some good to come out of this, so here's how you enter. Leave a comment telling us about a good deed you plan to do/have done this week. It doesn't have to be big or elaborate. Just something simple. Make another person's day. Make a donation. Save the world. Convince the NFL to move to 18 games. Whatever.

The contest will be open until Thursday (Aug 5) at noon (MST), at which time I'll announce the winner. Good luck!!!

On the pioneer trek, after I got my family's handcart up each hill, I went back and helped all of the other handcarts until they all made it - on every hill.

I'm currently volunteering at a pre-school for the summer. One of the kids always asks me to read him a story during play time. The past few times I've said no because I was busy organizing snack or setting something up, but in the next few days I'm going to take a little time to read him the story. After all, isn't the love of a good story what this is all about?

Sadly, the call-a-friend thing didn't pan out for me. He wasn't there. ~,~

But I did do really good tonight. ^,^ I cut one of the huge, deliciously juicy mangoes a friend had let my sister and I pick off of her tree, and I shared that mango with everyone. All of us love mango. ^___^

I also washed the dishes without anyone telling me to, or tooting my horn about it. Yay me! ^_^

This week at the county fair, my friends and i were in line for a great ride. I was really looking forward to riding it with my friends when it happened, the lady in front of me could not get in the car with her friends because she was too large. She couldn't ride the ride alone, so she asked me if I would be willing to ride with her. My first thought was no, but i has empathy for her, so i said yes, i would. After that i felt i did a very good deed.

(Sorry, my other comment was listed as anonymous by mistake, so I relisted it.)

I have held doors open in public places for over an hour-ish, just because I have nothing else to do.

I would also like to thank James Dashner for writing such good science fiction. There's not much left out there.
Also, Mockingjay. I'm waiting for that book too.

Keep writing!

My husband & I are giving some money to a no-kill animal shelter in West Virgnia.
Plus I make my husband's lunch every day. Does that count? He's a soldier so he can save the world, but not make his lunch!!

My life is not my own.....I think raising 3 kids, volunteering with the youth at church & working at the hospital can count for good points. But to go the extra mile, I have been caring for an older woman who just had knee surgery & sandbagging for houses in Flagstaff affected by the mud slides. I also suffered through my husbands class reunion last week and a family reunion (that really has to count!)Besides...reading is my one escape in life and I am dying for the new book to be out soon. I have used Maze Runner in 3 (yes, 3) bookclubs.
Pick me ,Pick me,Pick me...PLEASE!!!

Thanks, Natalie

I'm helping my sister's boyfriend plan a huge suprise for their year anniversary this Friday (August 6). He says he wants her to know exactly how much she means to him, so I offered to help keep her occupied so he can show up at our house and make her a special breakfast (with heart-shaped pancakes and flowers). I also helped him pick out a necklace, which he calls "the key to his heart". Their young love gives me hope and makes me happy. I love being able to help create a moment my sister will always remember.

I saved a duckling's life. I found it wandering around on Monday and looked around for its mother. Turns out she was hit by a car. So I went online and googled what to feed him. He's growing by the day now and pretty soon I'll be able to release him back into the wild where he can live a long happy life and make more ducklings. I know it doesn't seem like much, but every life should count as something. We are all important.

Dear NFL,

Please move your number of games to 18, because the TERRIFICALLIWONDERSHONKS author James Dashner LOVES football, and I would be so grateful if you could move it TO 18 GAMES. So, uh...yeah. MOVE IT TO 18 GAMES, or James Dashner, me, and a LOT of other people will never watch NFL games again. Well, Dashner probably will, but this is a warning!

18 games.

In our youth organization, a new member to the group didn't seem like she was going to be able to fulfill her responsibilities. It was suggested to me to have her relocated.

Instead of doing what was easy, I thought we needed to give her a couple more weeks, to see if she would figure everything out. I was willing to pick up the slack while I waited.

It turned out she just needed a little more time and now she's doing a great job at the original position she was given.

I cleaned up the entire house while everyone was gone considering that we have 2 big dogs my parents always complain about how messy the house gets so I cleaned it, cleaned the windows, floors, vaccummed, did the laundry, brushed the dogs, dusted all three floors. After I was done I cooked dinner. Even though im not a great cook, i did what i could do and my parents came in to dinner on the table and a spotless house. They were amazed.

Ok so, I have this friend who keeps trying out for sports teams at our high school, the only problem is she isn't making the cut. On Monday she tried out for the tennis team and on Sunday I thought, "I should do something for her so she'll feel good about her tryouts tomorrow". After church I decided to make tennis ball shaped and frosted cupcakes! I also gave her some vitamin C packets (from the health food store) for extra energy. :D
(I know cupcakes the day before trouts...They were men't as stress relief)
p.s. Oh, and I also fasted for her!

My story starts with a great group of teens at the public library where I work in Hamilton, Ontario. Our Book Club started two years (!) ago, and we're still going strong. Recently, we have begun Skyping with authors, which has been a-MAZE-ing. My good deed for today is a promise I made at our book club at 4:30 p.m. I told them I would ask James Dashner if he would be willing to Skype with us. And they are keen! Clarissa says she has a lot of questions. I think you would love to meet this group of kids. They are insightful, creative, and avid readers.
BTW, your book is in a competition this summer for the top teen novel. Two books have been voted off, and yours is still there. I have my fingers crossed.

As the first day of school approaches, I think of how many positive ways I can support my students. 7th graders are an interesting breed of kiddo and they bring all manner of baggage with them to school each day. My life is simple in comparison. My goal: Create an environment of safety where they can fail and know that it's okay. Give them a place where they can wallow in learning and find their way.

I think you have given us the best good deed by asking us to share ours. I'm inspired by what I'm reading.

This Friday I'll go to the show of a young female singer. She has a beautiful voice, but the style of her music is quite different from what people's ears are familiar with, that's why she is not very famous here, in Vietnam. But she continues to sing every week like there's no tomorrow, although sometimes there are only a few dozen people in the room. I admire that effort, and I love her music, too. I'll give her some support, as everyone needs it.

my laptop broke down- i'm now at my mothers place that's why i can write but i'll leave soon so anyway i just wanted to tell you that 3 friends of mine ordered your book BUT i don't think that i will get more people to order it in the next 24 hours because i have no internet, EVERYBODY is on vacation right now- well except of me( i'm going to throw a pitty party for me and all my poor friends who also don't have enough money to fly away whenever they want... ;))- and most of them are to lazy to read it in english anyway so yeah i think i'll quit but it's the thought that counts, right...?

i got my paycheck today and i can give my friend 600€! it's more than i thought it would be and i will suprise her tonight with the good news. i'm so excited to see her face!

it's amazing how many good deeds the readers here have done! i think it's great and i wanted to tell everyone how much i respect them for it! and mr. dashner: i wouldn't like to be in your shoes! good luck with your decision!

I just donated 22 books to my local library. Every other month I go through my book case and donate a bag of books I've finished reading! They are always ecstatic!

Since my step father died (3 yrs ago) my mom has been extra lonely and broke. Even though I live in Scotland I call her a few times per day to keep the loneliness away and my husband and I help pay some of her bills.

If I win an ARC, I'll ship it to someone else to enjoy!

On Monday, August 2, I volunteered at a hospital, in the long term care unit. The long-term care unit is filled with elderly people, mainly suffering from incurable diseases. Going in to it, I thought I was just going to be cheering up some elderly people by getting them involved in musical activities. But it was much more than that, and I now know that. My life changed that day, and I will never be the same. The people I saw were alone in a cheerless hospital, just passing the time until they die. But in that hospital, I witnessed a miracle. I saw these people, who had not a thing to be happy about, smile. They smiled because of the hope we brought them. I now see a whole new way of love. I went in that morning thinking I would do a good deed, sing a few songs, and leave. But really, they did me a good deed, and I owe them so much.

I swept of my mom's roof. It really needed it, covered in moss and branches. When I first got up there only five of six hornets were out. I kept sweeping, but soon they were swarming all around me. Back and forth and everywhere! I looked down, and right under the eave was a hornet's nest the size of a volleyball. Well, I took care of it as best I could and continued sweeping. After several hours I finnally finished and could go play in the lake.
