Next!

Talk about good timing.

Today, this very day, I completed my rewrites for Book 2 of THE 13TH REALITY and sent them off to Lisa at Shadow Mountain. Also, I received my official editorial letter from Krista at Random House for THE MAZE RUNNER. Back to work!

Coming this week on The Dashner Dude: Details on my fall tour, and background and info on MAZE and how it all came about. Stay tuned!

Dear Dashner Dude, I'm so glad I found your blog tonight. I've had a pretty devestating day. I have a cook book that has become very popular and Gibbs Smith decided they would publish it Spring 2010. I signed the contract a month ago and was given until June 2009 to submit my manuscript. Well, I received a phone call today and they decided to drop my book. I can't believe it. They told me they have so many cookbooks that they decided to let mine go. I don't understand what happened. I wish I could get more of an explanation, but the lady who called me didn't have much to give. They referred me to Shadow Mountain. It's hard for me to look at a local publisher when I have been thinking about going national for months now. I looked at a few other national publishers (it's hard to find them) and it looks like you have to have an agent to submit to them. I'm wondering if you have any advice for me. Please email me at freezerdinner@gmail.com. Thank you. My website is www.freezerdinner.com, blog: stangerfamily.blogspot.com I sure enjoy reading your blog. Thanks for all your posts.

Kimberly, right on.

Jenny, I'm very sorry about your news. Trust me, I feel your pain! Let yourself be sad for a little while, but then get back on the wagon and start submitting. It's obviously good enough to get published.

I wouldn't really call Shadow Mountain a local publisher. My book is in every bookstore in the country, so they definitely have a lot of distribution and marketing power. Much larger even than Gibbs Smith, I'd guess.

You should definitely submit to them (SM). They've done cookbooks before.

I highly recommend a book called WRITER'S MARKET to help you find the right agents and publishers to send it to.
