WINGS by Aprilynne Pike

In the last year or so, I've become good friends with Aprilynne Pike, about to make her debut TOMORROW. She got a very sweet deal for this series, and Harper Collins is promoting it big time.

It's not every author who gets this kind of backing: prepub tour, release tour, floor displays in all the major bookstores, a cover quote from Stephenie Meyer, etc. (If you don't know who Stephenie Meyer is, well, she's this lady who wrote a book about some town called... Spoons I think? And it has a lot of... what, vikings? No, vampires. Yeah, vampires. I think.)

Anyway, I just wanted to give a shout out for Aprilynne. She's an incredible writer and you're going to be hearing about this series quite a bit. I'm really rooting for her and you guys should totally check out her book. Did I mention it comes out TOMORROW?

You may be lucky enough to live in a place she's coming to visit on tour. To read about her book, see her schedule, check out her blog, etc., go to her website: CLICK HERE. You won't be sorry!

On another note, one week from today I'll be on my very own prepublicity tour!!! I'm getting very nervous. I mean, my hair! Whatever will I do with my hair? And should I get my nails done? What about my feet? Will these people be looking at my feet? Do they ever ask you to remove your shoes? And socks? Well, maybe they do. You never know.

Bah, have no fear. My wife plans to force me into a clothing store and I plan on wearing deoderant each and every day I'm gone. All will be well.

You gotta be fast, JN. You gotta be fast!

I've researched Wings a little bit (using good ol' Wikipedia) and I've come to the conclusion that this is a book I'd much enjoy reading. Never mind that Stephanie Meyer recommends it. ^,^

Hilarious, dude. Yeah, Meyer wrote a saga about Vikings who lived in a town called Spoons. -_-

Unfortunately, Aprilynne doesn't look like she's coming anywhere near Florida, so that's too bad. Oh well.

Too bad, J.N. Congrats, Windsong.

Guys have it so easy...
But that was very funny. At least your wife is planning on forcing you into a clothing store so you won't get out of this without at least a little fretting, from your wife.

It's already MAY?! Holy freaking cow! I can't believe it's already time to go get Aprilynne's book!

On another note, I checked out the Storymaker's website last night and there are some pretty sweet pics of you from the conference. Jeez, Dashner, you must have been glued to that podium. But the first pic of you is my favorite. :)

Look, Aprilynne! You already have new fans. I take full responsibility.

Thanks for laughing at my jokes, guys. It gets old when I'm the only one doing it!

*Aprilyne hugs James* Thanks you!!!

And yay for WINGS being the height of awesome until The Maze Runner comes out and puts it to shame! *headthunk*

*pets her stolen ARC of The Maze Runner* You're going to have to make Krista send me one of these before I let you have yours back.;)

Congrats to Aprilynne! whoo hoo! (and what a cool name!) How did she get Stephanie Meyers to do the cover quote? Wow.

I'm going over to her blogsite right now! Thanks James.

What the...!?

My wife writes a book, and this is the first I hear about it?

Good thing James has my back. Now I can pretend I knew all along!

Diva Donna said...

Yes Arlene it is in fact MAY! Time to get Aprilynne's book and for Dashner to buy a new shirt for his prepub tour (nothing fancy, its just to meet book clubs and librarians. Save the Armani for the actual Pub Tour in October;)

The Scarlet Tart said...

I'm having a hard time picturing Dashner in Armani at ANY gathering.

Dashnog
Nomist [No mist]-while this word sounds like someone who studies gnomes. In Dashnog it will mean a man who has no clue what his spouse is up to until James saves the day and spills the beans that he is married to a New York Times Bestselling Author. So the less detailed definition is: a man with no clue.
Usage: Kenny you're such a nomist.
(clarification--I know Kenny is kidding because I saw him grinning from ear to ear at the Whitney Awards with Aprilynne.)Still makes a good Dashnog word though.

James Dashner said...

Kenny, you're officially a part of Dashnog lore!

Your hair will look great, don't worry about the nails. It's the toes that matter most.

Thanks for the recommendation. How many hours before you're off? Oh wait, you're not really counting, right? It's just another day in the life of a NYT bestselling author.

Kenny said...

Dashnog lore! My glee transcends mere words. So I will resort to adolescent shorthand, which is like words, only better.

Srsly. ROTFLMAO.

Enjoy your pre-pub tour. Fine dining and conversation with people who have read (and, undoubtedly, loved) your book. What could be better?

Actually that's completely rhetorical, don't answer. In any event, I predict that you will have a fabulous time and everyone will be very impressed with you. Knock 'em dead.

No, seriously, knock 'em dead. That plus a little necromancy will get you far. Zombie bookbuyers are much more pliant.

(I check this site every day, but usually I just lurk. To-day, however, I have to come out of Lurkerdom to tell you the weird thing that just happened.)

So I'm reading the newest review at a site called The Bookbag (co.uk.) and it's a book called Wings about this girl who's turning into a faerie, and then I click on my bookmark for The Dashner Dude, and what do I see? A picture of that exact same book and another roaring endorsement! If that isn't a hint for me to buy it and read it, I don't know what is! Gotta do something until The Maze Runner comes out, don't I? *g*

I just saw this come into my bookstore last week. Couldn't tell what it's about, but Stephenie Meyer has a quote on the cover, so no matter what it is, every teenage girl on American soil will have it on her shelf by the end of the month.

Dashnog: pirst. A person who runs around typing "first" on webpages.

KitKat said...

I'm sure you're going to be amazing. Ironic, the fifth Percy Jackson book comes out tommorow as well...looks like I have some book buying to do!

James Dashner said...

Kenny, you're hilarious. And strange. Hey, just like your wife!

Melanie, that MUST be a sign.

Ouch. Competing with Percy Jackson. I dread finding what comes out at the same time as mine.

Mary said...

I really enjoyed this book, too. Happy debut day, tomorrow!

James--

Don't worry. Catching Fire comes out a week before Maze Runner. :-)

Unknown said...

Oh PS, "diship" is the Dashnog word. It's what you have when you want one big boat but you have two small boats, so you nail them together.

James Dashner said...

Doesn't CATCHING FIRE come out Sept 1? That was a huge factor in RH choosing an Oct release.

James Dashner said...

Great review, Mary. You should try to get an ARC of MAZE RUNNER from RH!

numberonedashnerfan said...

You just got unshooke, Fan :-)

Have you heard of the "Percy Jackson and The Olympians" series? The last book in that series comes out tomorrow also!!!

*I'll go and take a look at Wings while I'm at the book store!

Hey, James! Since she's starting her tour here in Arizona, I guess I don't have a choice! I'll go see her tonight after work. Speaking of work, I don't know if you're coming through AZ on your new tour, but I have a set schedule now! I don't work at Barnes anymore. =( It was a sad thing, but this new job is allowing me to save up a LOT of money for college. Like... putting away $1,000 a month kind of thing, which is nice. So let me know if you're in AZ. I'm off at 5 every day. Don't work weekends. =)

I got this last weekend. Really looking forward to the read. Came highly recommended from Sarah MacLean.

Good luck on your pre-pub tour. Will you be doing a signing at the BEA?

James Dashner said...

#1, you're a fireball!

Irish, I'll actually be doing TWO signings at BEA. Friday at 11:00 in the RH booth, and Friday at 1:30 on the Floor.

Kirsten, you're da bomb for supporting authors so much. I'm sure I'll end up in AZ again before too long.

The Scarlet Tart said...

Am I allowed to be bitter yet that Reno, NV is not a mecca for authors?

Irish said...

TWO signings...awesome...will have to try and get to them both. or at the very least one..=)

Got shafted on the Dashnog. It almost gave me "ptaters", but then I got "graze". Maybe I'm just hungry.

I heard about Wings through The King's English newsletter. I've marked my calendar to go to the reading there next week.
Looks like a good book.

If you want to meet Aprilynne Pike she will be signing books at BYU Bookstore during Education Week. James Dashner's new book, Maze Runner was promoted at the BIG Book Expo in NYC last week and was honored as one of THE books presented at an editor Buzz session. --nice endorsement!
