Book 3 Cover, Giveaway: THE DARK DIVINE

Well hey there.

Two things today:

1. I can finally show you the cover for Book 3 of THE 13TH REALITY (coming April 6). It's by Brandon Dorman, and I love, love, love it! For the record, that's Sato on the cover.

2. To celebrate, I'm giving away a signed copy of my good friend Bree Despain's book, THE DARK DIVINE. To be eligible, all you have to do is leave a comment and let me know what you think of the new cover. Or Bree's cover. Or the techniques of curling.

I'll announce the winner next week, at which time I'll also be announcing my tour cities and dates for the release of Book 3 in April. So, without further ado, here is the cover:

I actually love curling its a facinating sport. But, what about those Norwegian pants? Should I be glad my ancestors emigrated?

The cover looks amazing, congrats. :)

Wow, James. The cover looks fantastic! I'm starting my reread of the first book this week in anticipation of the third books release. Congrats!!!

That jumps out at me a lot more than the other ones. When do we get to see Scorch?

Cindy said...

Very, very nice, and I'm glad we have a Sato cover. Love all the lightning! And I am so excited to read more 13th Reality too!

Libyrinth said...

It's kind of sad that the Olympic sport of curling is under threat because of that one stinking little island in the Atlantic. It makes me think of a game close to it me and my father used to play. Oh well, fingers crossed. By the way, cover is awesome! I can't wait to read it, I'm still dying to read the second one, but got to finish the first. HAHAHA!!!!

My class says: "Whoa!" and "Why is Sato on the cover? Is he the new main character?"

Unknown said...

Wow! The cover looks really awesome! I love Bree's cover too, love the colors!

Both covers are fantastic! The purple is dark yet alluring on Bree's!

On yours, there is an intensity here that is just boggling! I cannot wait!!

It looks different from the first 2 covers of "13th Reality". It looks less magical and more action.

Me like this cover!

Chris Miller said...

This is the best cover of the three, by far. It really reaches out and grabs you.

When Bree had her signing at the King's English they held it in the Children's room instead of the Gallery and it was packed. Most of us ended up in the adjoining rooms, which meant we couldn't hear a thing. Hopefully they've learned and will put her in the Gallery next time.

Ashley said...

James,

I just found your blog. My husband and I love your books, and we can't wait for the 3rd book in the 13th Reality to come out.

I love the cover! As for curling, I am not sure I quite understand the sport.

Anedia said...

I just started to get into the series but I'm SO excited for the new book!! =D

Kasie West said...

It's like your doing this specifically to torture me. What? Not everything you do revolves around me? Huh...weird. :) Well, now I can't wait even more to start this series because I must know who Sato is. The cover is awesome!

Kasie West said...

And that was supposed to be "you're" not "your". I know how to spell and edit. :)

Candice said...

Great cover! I really like the title as well. I'm just getting ready to start the first book in this series, so I should be good and ready for the release of this one.

As far as curling goes... I say make sure you have a nice, hot iron, I'm partial to the ceramic ones. Then start a little down from the root.

Does that help? I have to say this is the strangest contest request I've ever seen, but to each his own. :)

iffath said...

Congrats, the cover looks amazing! V. exciting. Bree's also looks very pretty :)

Melinda said...

Wow, very cool cover!

You don't need to enter me in the drawing, because of course I already have Bree's book. :-)

I just wanted to tell you that your cover art is really cool.

Unknown said...

The cover is INCREDIBLE. I'll do better than talk about curling; I'll confess 2 things.

1. I don't know if I used that semicolon correctly.

2. I still haven't read Book 2. =/

FOR SHAME, KIR3STEN.

I Will finish my comment after school cause I have lots too say......

Peggy said...

Wow. I love it! I love how it still has kind of the same feel of the swirling like the others had, yet it's so unique with the jagged lightning! I love the title, too. Good stuff. Congrats on getting a great cover!

Angie said...

Hey I'm always game to try and get a free book. The cover is fantastic. My boys are dying waiting for the book to come out. (They all loved the Maze Runner, too. One son called his brother a shuck-faced piece of klunk yesterday. So thanks for that. :P )

Thuy said...

Congrats!
I love the fonts on the cover! (I'm a font person)

The weird thing about curling is that I don't understand it completely but, I can watch it all day. I like it :)

I've actually been a big fan of Brandon Dorman's work for some time and was thrilled that he'd be doing the cover for this book! He hasn't let me down because the cover is absolutely stunning.

Taffy said...

wahoo! The cover looks cool.My daughter and I have curling games going on everyday. I always have to find the flatiron. We have three bathrooms and I never know which one it's in. I still haven't figured out the rules.

Magenta said...

That cover looks awesome!!! I can't wait until it comes out in April. ^_^ Brandon Dorman is such an artist. (Thanks for explaining that the kid on the front is Sato. Otherwise I might have thought that was Tick.)

I'm not interested in Bree Despain's book. I just wanted to tell you how awesome the 13th reality cover is.

Also, curling is cool. One of the recent episodes on the Simpsons featured Marge and Homer actually curling for the Olympics. 0,o Also curling is in the Beatle's movie Help. That's hilarious. ^_^

J.N. Future Author said...

^.^ Love the cover! but...it's different than the last 2....it shows atticus looking like a different boy....unless, its not him! but wait, that begs the question, does it show his birthmark? If it is him of course. and what reality is that?

I can't wait for your book 3! or for your book 2 (scorch)!

Forever your fan!,

Jacoby

Tanner Shahan said...

The cover is awesome. I'm glad that sato is cover. I think it's cool how on every 13th reality cover there is some one new. Good Job. Keep up the good work.

Magenta said...

Jacoby! Hi. ^_^ James said that the boy on the front is Sato, not Tick.

Are you going to blog?

Danyelle Ferguson said...

I really like the cover! It looks great. I think I like the cover of #2 best. I'm so excited for #3 to come out though!

And curling? Dude, buy a curling iron and give it up. Then you can have curling every day. =)

I sincerely hope you're coming to Kansas City or somewhere nearby for your book tour!!!

OK,I have to be honest, I like the first 2 more. I dunno, maybe because it hasmore of a dark hue, which I personally love. But it's still awesome none the less!! How about some Scorch Trial? ;P

John Ferguson said...

James, I really like this cover.

There are some book covers I glance at and say, "That's good," then move onto the next blog. Then there are covers that grab my attention and I'm compelled to click and get a bigger view--the kind of view you have to scroll to see the whole image. Yours was the second kind.

jpetroroy said...

Very nice. I love how striking the lightning is!

Aubrey said...

Wow it really does look cool! So excited for them! Covers really draw me into or away from books, this one is great!

About curling, the trick is those crazy pants everyone is talking about. I think they are rad! (Did I just date myself? Do kids say rad anymore?)

I'd love to win the book! Oh and nice release date for Book 3, it happens to be my birthday! ;)

thoughts on YOUR COVER: it's electric. (boogie woogie).

thoughts on BREES COVER: it's surprisingly creepy. (then again, i'm a wuss.)

thoughts on CURLING: they should start a co-ed league. think of all the drama! it would be world wide phenomenon.

Congrats on the new cover!

Tasha said...

I love the cover of this book and think watching curling is like watching fire burn - addicting but not sure why.

Love the cover! I like how the lightning seems to meet his hand... Idk...it's cool!

I love both covers! I'm sort of colour freak so, my comment would be mainly about - colours *lol*

On yours, I love the combination of the vibrant colours as it enhanced the anticipation, thrill and fantasy moods. The Dark Divine, on the other hand, interject the mysterious element.

Both covers are definitely fantastic!

I haven't read The 13th Reality Series yet but the cover looks great!

I started following your blog after reading the Maze Runner and I'm eagerly awaiting the 2nd book in the trilogy.

I just read the synopsis for The Dark Divine and it sounds really interesting. I'm going to add it to my "52 books in 52 weeks" list. (BTW, The Maze Runner was book #3 and I finished it in a day and a half)

That cover is freaking AWESOME! It's different in the style of the other books, but, I think it's amazing, and I can't wait till it comes out.

Wow, James! That cover is awesome! Please come to indiana or kentucky! I would love to meet you!

That's a great cover! (And I love that it's Kato.) Count me out of the contest because I already have Bree's book...unless you're giving away that new 13th, in which case I'M ALL IN!

Jenny said...

I LOVE the cover. Let me know if you're coming to Seattle area for your book tour. I missed you for Maze. =(

As for curling--I LOVE to watch the frantic way the sweepers (or whatever they're called) brush the ice in such a panicky way. I pretty much can't help a chuckle when I see it. It is in such contrast to the careful gliding action of the other curler-person. Knowing the actual terminology would help me here, but you get the idea.

Are you sure the cover isn't portraying the newest curling technique??

Kidding aside, it's an awesome cover! Nice composition and choice of colors. I agree that the action in it is a real eye-catcher.

Congratulations! :)

Borostyán said...

There's action on the cover of the 3rd book, and I like it. I haven't read any of the series, yet though... But I'm reading the Maze runner right now, and that's fantastic. I love it!

Bree's cover is girly which I also like. :)

Anonymous said...

I can't wait for the next book to come out! I have some predictions about Sato, so I was exited to see him on the cover.

You joke about curling, but when the Olympics were in SLC I won tickets to a curling event and it was kind of cool. There were this crazy group of Germans sitting behind us hollering and cheering like it was the Super Bowl. Good times.

Mark Daymont said...

I love hockey for its action, but it's also fun to try to understand the strategic moves of a curling match. Love the olympics! Regarding the covers- I have to admit I was surprised that the "swoosh" accents weren't included this time... but the cover looks great anyway!

Brian said...

Wow! Awesome cover! I love the lightning everywhere!

Haha! Curling. The only thing I know about it is that use sweep in front of the rock to direct it to the target.

Erin G. said...

Ahhh! JAMES! The cover looks fantastic! I'm so excited! :D Congrats, stud!

P.S. I sort of blogged about you for a couple seconds yesterday. Does that give me a leg up in this competition? ;)

I love your cover. It conveys high intensity and adventure.

TDD cover is very intriguing.

I guess I have to say I don't think much about curling though. Not that I think poorly of it I just don't really think of it.

Trollololol said...

I love the web of lightning that surrounds Sato, it looks fantastic!

The Dark Divine cover is beautiful... but being just a stock photo it can't compare to original covers such as the ones on your books.

:)

Jack Porter said...

This is going to be a long comment James, so sit back, relax, and pull out a Pepsi.

1) At first, when I saw the third cover, I hated. Thinking about the many things wrong with it. But then I realized they don't always have Tick on the cover (duh.) And then I noticed the city behind Sato and the green thing about it. (What's with that, no cover's are green anymore???). And now I look at it and can only say: "Wow!" It definetly compliments the title and the other two. Just can't wait for it to come out.

2) TDD. I guess I could say I like this cover. It's as if it curls in mistery and makes you want to pick it up and read what it's about. Just like The Maze Runner.

3) Curling: Slide out from the HACK before delivery, hold broom in one hand - stone in the other - face down in order to keep your balance. Wait until the stone begins to curve, then sweep to the right or left, depending on what direction you want it to spin, in order to increase its amount of velocity in the turn. And if you want to get the stone to go straight and they accidently spin it, just sweep really hard at the beginning in order to get it to go straight. And make sure to have the HAMMER, which is the finally throw and knock away as many stones of the opposite team possible.

Well, I'm going to wrap this up and pray that I win, because I really want that book!

See you later,
Your loyal Duder,

-Jackson

I like the cover. Very, intriguing is, I think, a good word.
Oddly, I also like curling. Didn't get it until a friend at the gym explained it to me (in excruciating detail) during a 45 minute stationary bike ride while curling was on one of the tvs in front of us. Now, I think it's actually pretty cool and I'm a little bummed that I live in Texas where I highly doubt there's anywhere I can try it out.

Thanks for the chance to win.

1.Watching curling always did fascinate me. The anticipation builds up in me when they slide the curling stone towards the house (the target- for those who do not know curling). I always find it really cool how the curling stone is granite! It is always so polished and perfect. I live in the United States so we don't see as much curling-unlike Canada. But when I do see it I take the time to dwell in a cool sport. Ha-ha get it, COOL- like the curling sheet. Sorry just the rhyming nerd inside of me :) And if anyone ever gets the chance, watch a special needs curling event. It is truly amazing on how wheelchair users still give it their all ignoring their disability.
2. The Dark Divine by Bree Despain looks like a magnificent book. The cover always catches my attention. A couple of my friends have read it and they just rave on how the book is. It has reached a lot of popularity- and from my understanding, this is her first novel! I am looking forward to read this book, and in the process finding another great author, because once I opened my eyes to what you (James) write, I was hooked. I hope to open my mind to a new reality in The Dark Divine 9haha- reality, pun on The 13th Reality) :). I am sorry I just can't seem to stop. :P
3. As for the cover of the next 13th Reality book- WOW! I really like it a lot. My favorite was always the first book cover. The color and the mystical features always caught my eye. Now that this cover has come out, I am thinking that this is my new favorite. The colors and use of art on it is truly a master piece. I am all questions on why Sato is on the cover, guess I will have to wait. The covers that are used for your books really catch my attention. That isn't even the half of it, the writing- is amazing.
4. So I know for this contest you didn't need anything else. But I wanted to tell you that I really loved Maze Runner also. It was actually the Maze Runner that got me into your writing. After scouring the internet for other books, that is when I came across the 13th Reality. Then I fell in love all over again. I also like the cover for the UK and Greece.
5. Well that is everything that I had to say :) , an interesting contest this is. Can't wait to hear from you!

Jay Weight said...

Absolutely striking! If you know what I mean. Love it!

Kissha Peddy said...

Wah~ Is the contest still open? I am in a desperate search for a copy of the Dark Divine! X{

I cant believe they pulled it out in our bookstore here in the Philippines... I do not know why they did so.

One of my favorite form of art has always been book covers... the're so powerful and they manipulate me so much that I really give a book a second glance if the cover intrigues me.

The book covers of The 13th Reality book 3 and The Dark Divine are both gorgeous. Very creative and eye-catching... book cover designers are geniuses! :D
