Stephen King, Judy Blume, LTUE Schedule

Before I tell you my detailed schedule this weekend (come see me!!!) at the symposium at BYU, I want to throw out something very random.

I really want to have dinner with Stephen King, my writing idol.

I know there has to be someone who can make this happen for me. Please help. I'm just throwing this out there for now, but I'm actually contemplating and scheming on what I can do to push it along. I'm thinking a charity may need to be involved. Stay tuned.

One of the shining moments of my life was when I had cupcakes and tea with Judy Blume. If you missed my embarrassing write-up on that, CLICK HERE (where there is also a picture to prove I'm not lying). As you can clearly see, this experience can only be topped by dinner with Abraham Lincoln or Stephen King.

Anyway, here is my schedule. Don't miss my reading from The Death Cure on Friday morning!!! All events are in the Harman Building over by the Marriott Center.

THURSDAY the 17th:

3:00 pm Panel: Slush Piles and what not to do when submitting your writing.

4:00 pm Panel: Dystopias and Utopias.

6:00 pm Panel: Marketing - what can you do?

FRIDAY the 18th:

10:00 am READING: First 2 chapters of The Death Cure.

12:00 pm Panel: What is an agent and what can they do for you?

2:00 pm Panel: Character's morals/theology vs. the author's.

6:00 pm Panel: How not to talk down to your YA audience.

SATURDAY the 19th:

11:00 am MAIN ADDRESS: That's me, giving the main address. There will be a Top Ten list!!!

1:00 pm: Signing books in room 1188

2:00 pm: Signing books again in room 1188

4:00 pm: Why write about worlds that don't actually exist?

7:00 pm: LTUE Banquet. (You MUST buy tickets to this before the actual conference. Even though the website says you can't anymore, tickets WILL be available through tomorrow. CLICK HERE to order them.)

I can't wait to hang out with those who come! See ya soon....

Congratulations on living the dream!

Can't wait to see you there. I don't think that I will be introducing any of the panels that you're on, but I will definitely be at the main address, and I'll see if I can make it to the signings. Good luck!

Have a blast at the LTUE. Wish I could be there.

Yay! I get to moderate your noon panel on Friday! Can't wait!

My daughter wants me to get her copy of Scorch Trials autographed while I'm at the conference. But I'm not going to be there Sat. If I see you in the hall, can I grab you to sign her book, or am I SOL if I can't make it to the official book signings--now that you're a big shot?

Wow, so excited for LTUE. Went for one day last year and I managed to be able to go all three days this year.

It's gonna be a blast.

As for the Stephen King dinner - I'll just speed dial him....

I'll be there! I'm so excited I can't stand it.

Say what? You're reading from The Death Cure?! What about those poor people out in, say, Washington who can't come see you? What do they do then?

James, if I don't go to Hawaii this weekend, I will come to BYU and hang with you cool people. But if I miss it this year, I will be thinking happily of the year I met so many wonderful writers at LTUE. You made a very positive impression on me, and I know you'll be fantastic in all your panels and readings. Very happy for all your success!

I totally wish I could be there, but I have work. And it's my wedding anniversary on the 17th. 15 yrs, we should mark the day somehow...:) But he has work. Man, sometimes work really stinks lol

Done rambling. Way to go, James, and have a ton of fun!

You said you are reading the first two chapters of the death cure so how much of the book is that going to be? I'm guessing 20 pages.

Will the reading be posted on youtube? I think it would be good promotion if you did that.

Yeah, yeah. I just wanna know some stuff about 13th Book 4. :)

Why is Stephen King your idol? I've never read any of his books, they sound kinda strange... And please tell me that once you read the first two chapters they will be published online or on your blog!!! And yes, wanna know about the 13th Reality too!

Just wondering when 13th Reality #4 is coming out.

Your keynote address was fabulous. Just what I needed to hear. I frequently hear bestsellin authors talk about their success as if it just fell upon them. To hear you say that you are extremely ambitious was encouraging. This is me to a "T". So I guess I can expect to be the key note in five years?

Oh, I know what you mean. I read Steven King's On Writing a while back and recently revisited it on audio, and it's still amazing. And simple. It seems we as writers often make things so much more difficult. Imagine that! :)

Hey James,
Good job on the key note address, but I found a few problems with it...well actually just one. Cedar Fort is NOT "Teeny Tiny". We are actually almost as big as Covenant. We publish over 100 titles a year and your first book did really well by comparison to other first time novelists. Just FYI so you can be more accurate in the future. =) Btw, what's up with being fashionably late to the book signing? Had to run home for lunch so I couldn't stay to say hi. Sad. Good luck with the future endeavors that you weren't supposed to tell us about. =J

I found you from Shannon's blog.
Good luck on that fund raiser.

Wish I could be the fly on the wall for that visit with the "King". Sigh.

Dinner with Stephen King... I'd be way to afraid of what that man eats for dinner. Raw meat and the souls of lesser writers locked in eternal torment.

You know what I'm sick of? Writers touring in the US. You know, Canada is like, right there. We aren't far. Just... you know... scoot on up here if you get a chance. Seriously, we're super polite. And we have maple EVERYTHING. So you can't really lose...

I really hope everyone reads this response because I am soooo excited about something. So I know everyone has been saying how amazing The King's Speach is. I'm one of those people can't see it because its R which made me soo stinkin' mad! Well there have been so many complaints that they are going to re-release it in theatres as PG-13 because they are going to edit it!!! I can not wait!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dear Mr. Dashner,
I’m a teen librarian in Waupaca, Wisconsin. My Student Library Advisory Group was recently given a small grant to use as they choose. We discussed the idea of skyping with an author, and your name was at the top of their list. Is this something you do? Or would consider doing? Thank you for considering their request!

I tried to find a video of you reading the book (And hoping to maybe catch a glimpse of the Death Cure's cover...) but it is NOWHERE online. Stupid internet.

Oh, here's a review site where I posted a review of the Scorch Trials, if your remotely interested in seeing your 4 and 1/2 Star rating.

Jason--James made us promise not to record it and put it online. Something about contracts, blah blah. Ditto his cover.

You'll just have to take our word for it that you'll love both!!

Hei! It's not really a comment to your blog, but rather a question I got when I read "The Scorch Trials". I love this series, I really do. By the way I'am russain and english is not my native language, I have never learnt it either. But... Your books are so wonderful I gat will to read them, so I began with it. But I have some questions, the most important is: If the Gladers went on their quest at 6 o'clock, so the deadline for the quest ending must be 6 o'clock in two weeks, isn't it? But if Thomas and Teresa and Aris left the cave with the gass chamber early in the morning how can they have 5,5 hours to deadline? Then they have to leave 00.30 in the morning! How can it be some light in tropical region in this time of the day? You wrote, that it was early morning light in the cave, but that could be only on a pole in summer, right? What is your explanation? Thank you very much! if oyu want to answer me you can write to fingertuppen@mail.ru Will it be very arrogant of me to wait for your response? I understand You have much more important things to do of couse... but...

I heard a rumor that you were going to write the screen adaptation of the first Maze Runner film. Is this true? And that the director of the first Twilight movie and Red Riding Hood is going to direct it??? WANTTOHEARTHENEWS =)

why have you not blogged in so long?!?!

(I would have left you a private email, but I couldn't find your email address)

Dear Mr. Dashner,

My name is Sara Breidenbach, and I'm a high school junior. I am currently reading The Maze Runner in school, and let me tell you, it has easily become my favorite book of all time. Within the first week of reading, I was already at chapter nine.

But that is not why I've decided to contact you.

I am an amateur voice actor on my spare time and I was wondering if I could do a non-profit radioplay on The Maze Runner. If you aren't sure what a radioplay is, technically, it's like an audio book, only it's made for non-profit use and they are usually listened to on the internet. You will be given credit, of course, for writing the story.

The reason why I wanted to do this, is because I really imagine this book as a Hollywood blockbuster. However, it's really hard to become a director these days and I might not have a chance. That, and I want to show the world that there is more to books than just Harry Potter and Twilight.

You can contact me by email at Sbreido@yahoo.com or Rhapsodyd@gmail.com. Or, you can leave me a comment at my as-of-right-now blank blog at www.sarabreidenbach.blogspot.com

I hope to hear from you soon!

Sincerely,

Sara Breidenbach
