Inspired by the lovely Miss Zoot, who gave away a few of my books recently, I've decided to do the exact same thing. So here we are, the official 13th Reality giveaway. Here are the rules:
1. I'm going to give away THREE signed and personalized copies of the new hardback, plus a 13th Reality T-shirt. I will also pay to ship it to you.
2. The only thing you have to do to enter the drawing is leave a comment on THIS blog post. Your name will enter the hat, from which I'll randomly draw three winners.
3. Here's the theme of the comments: What is your favorite book and why (in 25 words or less)? Disclaimer: mentioning my book does not increase your chances of winning, har har.
4. I'll leave the contest open until Saturday night of this week. So, until April 19th at midnight.
5. I'll announce the winners next Monday, at which time I will ask you to email me your address. Please check back next Monday and email me if you win. I will go to the next in line if I haven't heard from you in a couple of days.
6. Nice and simple right? If you guys spread the word and we get a good turnout, I just might do this each and every month until every person in the world has a copy. Of course, I guess you don't have incentive to spread the word because that decreases your chances of winning. Oh well, I'm doing it anyway!!!!
In the meantime, I'm not sure how much longer the killer sale at Amazon will last. It's 5 bucks off over there! And though I'm sure you're going to win a free copy and a t-shirt, that doesn't mean you can't go buy a copy for every person you've ever met, plus three more for complete strangers (kidding, of course). If you've already read it, please go post a review: CLICK HERE.
Lyrics for the day (trying to appeal to some of my younger target audience this time):
Ow!
Da da da do it now
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaah
OW!
Alright
Yeah yeah yeah
Yeah yeah

Pickle Things by Mark T. Brown. Awesome rhymes, fantastic illustrations, and you laugh every time. Loved it as a kid and I love it now.
My favorite book is the Princess Bride by William Goldman. The book is so much better than the movie and I adore the movie! He really had a way of making the story truly believable! Of course my whole family loves the entire Jimmy Fincher series. I don't know if you remember us or not but my son and I came to a writers workshop at the Springville Library a few years ago. He loved your book so much that he was The Hooded One for Halloween one year and he made up a game called Fincher Tag where you used the various gifts Jimmy had.
Well, you finally picked a lyric I don't know. Good on ya, mate.
Jane Langton's The Diamond in the Window. Magical house with quest for two clever kids in Concord, Mass.? It doesn't get better than that.
(I'm afraid that the protagonists ARE orphans, though, Dude. I know how that's a peeve of yours.)
Only the second paragraph of this comment counts towards the word count, right?
Until I Find You by John Irving because it honestly shows how our memories that seem like realities can be distorted...
Somebody said if I said "Mr.Bean" here --I would win a book.
MR. BEAN
Wow.. hard call. I have 2 YA authors who's books I love !
Cornealia Funke, Inkheart and Inkspell, excellent premise for a story!
Jonathan Stroud ,The Bartimaeus Trilogy, You just have to love a loud mouth, wise cracking, demon for a star character!
As much as I like fantasy and YA books, I have to say my favorite book is now and always will be To Kill a Mockingbird.
The Lord of the Rings is my favorite book, because it is so poetic and beautiful. The characters are like old friends now.
I started The 13th Reality in a book store, I the acknowledgments made me laugh. It was so funny. Thanks for that. Hope I get to read the rest of the book....
I would have to say Freedom Factor by Gerald N. Lund because it says what it would be like without the U.S. Constitution.
Aaron Brower
You are still my number one author James Dashner I just like that book as well as yours.
Aaron Brower
My favorite book is The Shining by Stephen King. I was 18 years old sleeping with the lights on and scared of sculpted hedge animals.
Orson Scott Card's Speaker for the Dead has been my favorite book since I discovered it about 5 years ago. I read it right after Ender's Game thinking it couldn't live up to it, but I ended up reading a book that just blew me away with it's human touch in an alien world. I loved the philosophical aspects of it, the relational aspects of it...everything. OK...rambling now :p I've heard great things about your book! Looking forward to reading it!
Hey this works perfect. I just posted a bunch of reviews of books I like at my blog. I love books, don't make me narrow it down to one--I don't want to hurt the other's feelings. :)
Wow. Such inspiring lyrics. Too bad I don't feel very inspired by it at the moment. Maybe if I come back later......
I like to many books to have a favorite but some of my favorite authors are J.K. Rowling, Dee Henderson, Dorothy Keddington, Lynn Gardner, Betsy Brannon Green and Stephanie Black
Sunbum, glad you got my joke on the lyrics. I think I'll return to more Dashner Dude type stuff right away.
What book is my favorite? So many to choose from!! I'd have to say that the one sitting at the top of my favs pile right now is Auntie Mame: An Irreverent Escapade by Patrick Dennis. It's the basis for the Broadway show, and is probably one of the funniest books I've ever read. It's totally over-the-top, and Auntie Mame herself is simply fabulous. I love the book so much, my black lab is named Mame. If you haven't read it before, give it a try!
My favorite book is still Tailchaser's Song by Tad Williams. I read that when I was about 13-years-old, and was absolutely captivated with the alternate world of these cats. Reading and rereading that book appealed to so many of my interests that it inspired me to take my own writing to a new level (essentially, world-building).
I haven't read the Warriors series yet, although I own the first book, but I'm curious to see how similar it is and how the subject can be handled on a younger level.
Bel Canto by Ann Patchett because it is the most beautiful book I've ever read. The relationships are just...beautiful.
Please please please pick me!!!
There is no way I can pick a favorite book. There are just too many that I love. But if I qualify it by saying my favorite book for this week, it's Sun and Moon, Ice and Snow by Jessica Day George.
However, 13th Reality is sitting on my nightstand waiting it's turn to be read. I'm sure it will be my fav the week after I read it.
(And yes, even though I have the book, I still want to win it. I promise to give it as a gift to someone who will love and cherish it for many, many years to come.)
You want us to name ONE favorite book? Oh my... How about anything written by Jane Austen (I am a girl after all), or Mitch Albom's, "The five people you meet in heaven", or Paulo Coelho's "The Alchemist". All classics.
I don't think I can pick a favorite book either. I do love the The Hobbit though and can reread it over and over.
Seriously, one book? You've got to be kidding! How about the best book I've read this year? Still to hard, I've read to many. How about the best book I've read in the last month? And I still can't decide. I'll give you Left to Tell: Discovering God Amidst the Rwandan Holocaust by Immaculee Illibagiza.
What if I told you that you wouldn't have to ship my book if I won, you could just bring it over and maybe we could have dinner (with the hubbie and kids!) as we live in West Jordan). Would that up our chances of winning? :)
Seriously though, I thought I would mention that my husband is that guy you met on Trax once and he asked about your book prior to it being published. Taylor Maw was his name. I thought I would say thanks for taking the time to email and answering many of his questions, it was much appreciated.
James, James, James- I had no idea you even had this blog up and running. You need to send it out to Everyone on your email list that you have Ever Emailed. I had to find it off of a friends blog who linked you. (very cool, by the way) So my favorite book. Well, when I was young, I loved the Book of Three -Black Caldron series by Lloyd Alexander. The swords and fantasy were enough to make me wish I was an assistant pig keeper :)
PS- Still unpublished, and trying for a free book off your site. Consider yourself updated :) Rebecca
My fave book would be The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale. I love how she tells the story! Would love to win your book! Thanks!
Favorite movie is easy, but favorite book? Not so much. How about favorite series? Ooh, that's hard, too. Favorite author? Same thing. Um, would it bee too "Peter Priesthood" of me to say the Book of Mormon?
How about "Mike Mulligan and his Steam Shovel" by (had to look this up) Virginia Lee Burton? One of my favorite books as a child. Or, for that matter, "One fish two fish red fish blue fish" by Dr. Seuss. Both are favorites from my early childhood.
Um, have I reached 25 words yet?
My favorite book is probably Right Ho, Jeeves by P. G. Wodehouse. I absolutely cannot read that book without laughing out loud. I seriously think that the award ceremony scene in chapter17 is the funniest thing anybody has ever written.
ONE of my favorites in Connie Willis' The Doomsday Book. Why? (in less than 25 words) The tightly woven plot and realistic characters make it so I must always finish it in one sitting.
Inkheart by Cornelia Funke. Her writing is amazing, the story was so much fun (and I wish possible in real life!!). The book made me want to write my own (Ha! maybe someday). Overall it kept me on the edge of my seat and up reading way past my bedtime.
Thanks :)
One of my favorite books growing up was Anne of Green Gables by LM Montgomery. Anne Shirely was a great roll model...she was smart, spunky and she was flawed. She tried hard and sometimes failed (linement in the cake) and had a temper (poor Gilbert!) and she was very much like the kid I was in many ways.
Wow it's so hard to choose just one... Probably "Lord of the Rings" by JRR Tolkien. The fantasy of all fantasies!
My very favorite is a toss up between East of Eden and The Little Prince. I love how Saint-Exupery has so much social critique in a children's fairy tale/fantasy.
To Kill A Mockingbird is so full of wisdom about how to live gently among other people. Plus I have a little crush on Atticus.
My favorite book is 13th reality. I like how Ticks dad was included, even though he wasn't
My favorite book..(I can't believe you want me to pick just ONE...ONE BOOK?) Ok, if it has to be one, I choose "IM" by Rick R. Reed. This book is one of the best horror books I've ever read! He's like Stephen King with better endings! I don't know if I'll ever actually accept another IM after reading that one. (It kept me up at night) and I can't tell you when a book has done that too me!
Oh, I just wanted to let you know that I found out about this wonderful and generous contest from your friend J. Scott Savage, who has nothing but great things to say about your book! Yet, I noticed that you haven't blogged about his tour! I have, and I just met him last month! : )
Amy
I love Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. Although I'm not specifically in her target demographic, I really think her characters and her story speak to everyone and you can relate no matter where you are in your life. Plus, if you're looking to escape life for a little bit, there's nothing else like it!
My favorite book right now is These is my Words by Nancy Turner.
A historical fiction that takes place in Arizona Territory with a main character that makes me wish she were my best friend.
Came across your blog on cr8buzz - book sounds fantastic!
Anyway - my favorite book is actually a series. Anne Bishop has written the Black Jewels Trilogy - that explores a world that is dominated by females and is just the journey of a young woman who destined to become this great queen. I couldn't put them down. I just love all of the symbolism.
Thanks for this opportunity.. I know I will be buying your book regardless!
Great Brain by John D. Fitzgerald. I know I'm late but I like to let people know I'm here! Your book is great Mr.Dashner! The youtube video you posted on the main page on your blog ruined the book for me! I haven't gotten to where his little sister burns the letter! Some info about me is I'm in the 5th grade in Draper, UT and I went to super literacy Saturday at Draper Elementary school! Oh sorry too many words! Oh well I can't win anyway Haha! Well open a new contest soon, I'll be watching!
Wow.. hard call. I have 2 YA authors who's books I love !
